about the project

"Derjan" is an annual program that aims to promote democratic values and human rights in Yemen through arts and filmmaking. Derjan works to build the filmmaking industry in Yemen by empowering filmmakers through providing mentorship, training, networking opportunities, and offering development and production grants. Derjan encourages filmmakers to utilize visual arts to emphasize democratic principles and inspire societal change. On an annual basis, the program supports number of participants, provides them with the necessary knowledge and tools to create impactful films, and connects them with experienced mentors to elevate their work, allowing them to participate in local and international film festivals. Derjan works on building the community and ecosystem of the filmmaking industry in Yemen, bringing rising artists and professionals together. Derjan comes in line with YWT’s general strategic plan and vision in its ability to employ the arts and media in driving postivie change, bolstering the Yemeni film industry and fostering the broader creative culture in Yemen.

 

Outcomes

Durjan Program For the past six years, it has provided more than 74 local filmmakers from all over Yemen with guidance through cooperation with local, regional and international professional filmmakers to make films centered on promoting the values of peace, coexistence, social change and democracy, which were screened at the Karama Human Rights Film Festi
